Community Engagement Reconciliation Lead
Fee-For-Service Consultant: 3-month project @ up to a maximum of 21 hours per week
(3-month extension is possible)
The purpose of the Community Engagement Reconciliation Lead (CERL) is to work with Rama community members who have been impacted by child welfare to develop a reconciliation strategy that supports their needs. The successful candidate will report to the Truth and Reconciliation Steering Committee which includes Rama Social Services and Leadership as well as the local Children’s Aid Society Leadership. The truth and reconciliation initiative is a collaborative partnership between Rama First Nation and the Children’s Aid Society (Simcoe Muskoka Family Connexions) and is intended to facilitate understanding, acknowledgement and healing for Rama members who have been impacted by child welfare practices from 1951 onwards. This position will be based on Rama First Nation.
We are seeking candidates who have:
➢ A Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work degree is preferred. A degree in Social Science from an accredited University, or a diploma in Social Services in combination with several years’ experience in Child Welfare and/or community-based practice will be an asset.
➢ Sound knowledge of and sensitivity to the experiences of First Nations and Indigenous peoples in Canada and the impact of the residential school’s system and the 60’s scoop upon individuals, families and communities.
➢ Ability to engage with assess and support the needs of community members.
➢ Sound knowledge of Indigenous practices, culture and community.
➢ Thorough understanding of and ability to practice a strength based and culturally sensitive approach.
➢ Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all project stakeholders.
➢ Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills.
➢ Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
➢ Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required.
Compensation Fee-for-Service of $46.72/hour for 14-21 hours per week
